Totally stuck!

I semm to have got myself stuck for the past few weeks and unable to move forward with any of the remaining quests I have. Maybe they are linked and I need to do something with one of them to kickstart the others or something, either way, I am at a loss..
The kidnapped wife quest, I can not do because the husband will not give me the rum.
I can not get further with the thieves guild as I have entered the thieves guild, gone back to the mysterious man and he just tells me I do not have what he needs. What does he want??
I found out who the jewellery shop thief is but I no longer have the jewels to return them and the shop is closed anyway..
I can not advance in regard to the main mission as I have no idea how to advance with it as I can not seem to come across any information about the governor or the returning..
These are the only things left and I have been going round in circles for weeks now.
Pease can someone help me?? I dont want to have come this far for nothing!

I hate to say this but you're gonna have to start over. The thieves guild will become part of the main quest later on. I've had to restart a few times my own self

This is a little late, but no, you do not need to start over. If you are having trouble with combat, why not do a few extra low-level quests? If you can't figure out a quest, check out the "Guides" section of the forum, where you can find a lot of good guides for the quests of this huge game: I wrote a "blog" which can be treated as a walkthrough for the base game and there are a lot of useful resources in the guides; you just might have to dig around a bit to find em.
