Cave under lake Brendan

So, about the cave under lake Brendan, you all know the one right? You take a fall, kill some Skellies, then you have to get past a gate, here's my problem, to get past the gate, I need to pull a lever, but that lever is in a hall filled with water, too deep for me to reach, any suggestions?

Use a throwing knive or bow to hit it (:
You have 20 save slots use them all. Save after every quest, save before going into a dungeon, save, save save!!
