Killing a shaman in vastares

Postby Jerry » Sun Jul 01, 2012 12:20 pm

Hi, I am on my way to the monastery thru the barren forest and keep getting killed by shamans, I am at level 7 and can't defend against their attack, just 2 strikes and I am dead :(
Any tips on how to kill a shaman?

If you're an undead like me then just cast drain health at them until they die (watch out for when they cast resist magic, then just move around until it wears off (two to three turns)) if not, then well, you're screwed lol, get some magic resisting armor or potions.

I think you're simply too weak for them now, or your magic resistance is very low. Try to use ranged weapons or spells against them, and/or get some magic resistance with buying or enchanting armor/weapon, or simply with buying/making magic resistance potions.

But sylon, if his magic resistance is that low he is likely a rasvim, therefore he should be able to cast drain health at them no? Unless he is a rasvim warrior, not Mage then he should be fine, although level seven is admittedly a bad time to face them, I didn't even try until after I finished the list monastery, at which point I was level eleven

Yes, probably he's a Rasvim, I don't know. But if not, he's simply too weak for the shamans now.

I go as far west as possible and walk along the lake. There in the open land you can see the Shaman move in on you I then dance with him until I can get to the Shaman in close combat. It takes a few saves and healing potions/magic. Loot for such a tough customer is disappointing!

If you're forced to do that then you either have crap magic resistance, are a low level, or both, cuz I can face them head to head as a rasvim, with two dwarves hitting my flank at level eleven, get some better armor, enchant it, drink a couple of potions if you have to

Thanks for all the quick replies, but I am an etherim, I decided to leave vastares and complete the quest of getting the book of "rituals of ancients" till I had a higher level and it paid off. i moved on to Phryn and completed a couple of quests, then once i reached level 12, I went back to the portal and managed to kill the abandoned ones and lost souls with just a couple of healing and replace mana.

I am in Phryn now, but whenever I encounter a Blood Shaman or an Aged Shaman who are aplenty in Pinegate, just 2 bolts from a Lightening Bolt and I am dead!!

Just hating those Shamans...
