Help Holy Man's Quest

So i took the quest and he said to find the & kill the mother and or spawn i dont remember. But i never found a spawn or the mother. I just went through the cave and killed all the eyes that came up to me. I saw one portal but then a message pops up saying something about "quick the portal is closing" something along those lines. Then i went to the portal and it's not working. So i went back to the Holy Man and when i talk to him i completed the quest even though i didn't find the mother or spawn. Can someone tell me what reward i would've gotten if i have found and kill the mother? Or was this a bug that i completed it?

Check your quest log (its the black circle thing between the question mark an the scroll at the top of your character menu) to find out if you solved or failed the quest. I would assume if the old man told you it was completed then it is. I don't remember what items you receive for completion (I don't recall anything spectacular) but the main prize here is some information about you and your past
