There are several quests you can complete to get money. There's a very easy one, and you'll get around 800 coins for doing it.
You've just got the quest, so I suppose you're somewhere around Matras. Talk to Mayana, the streetwalker near the port, she'll ask you to rob the innkeeper. At night, hit a window that's not lit, and you'll find the gold, and some items. But you'll have to give Mayana back at least 250 gold when you tell her you did what she said.

I'd advise 'Kidnapped wife' quest, too. Lord Bogar gives it in the northwest area of Matras. You'll get at least 1000 gold for completing it.
But I won't tell you how to solve that, I don't want you not to be excited.
Or if you won't manage to do it, ask.

Anyway, the best way of earning gold was advised by loads of people around here:

Go into a tavern and play cards after you saved your file, and if you win: save and play again; if not: reload your previous save.

If you know alchemy you could make beer, potions and sell it to to alchemist at the village of Matras.
