The Quest - PC/iPad versionRe: The Quest - PC/iPad versionOkay, we were taking a look inside towns, forests and catacombs, but everything was so boringly peaceful... Let's have some action, let's meet some enemies at last! We hope you remember most of them from the original game. : )

Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionThis looks awesome! Great detail in the monsters and the background. The water and the flowers look amazing! Beckie
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionThe mugger is definitely my favorite. I'm loving the progress guys!
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionThese pictures look awesome! Just one thing- first one You posted-http://www.redshift.hu/QuestPC/Shots/QPC-shot01.jpg
looks like copy-paste real foto to fit game model. Other pictures look really good (and it's a real shame I won't see them on Android...). BTW- not exactly about new version, but... When I've been playing iOS version years ago, it always bugged me- why am I being shot at, by those archers? I mean- it's pretty obvious that bandits attack me. Same for orcs, monsters, etc. But Archers (Amazons, etc.) are only "monsters" that actually could explain why I'm their enemy. I know there is Amazon queen hiding in some hole, but it'd be nice to get some lore info on them.
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad version
Amazons are militant women who fight like men. They are trained by the Amazon Queen to kill everyone they meet. By the way, if you find the Amazon Queen and spend a night with her (you'll see how) she will tell you how archers got to Freymore. ![]() Guess that's all. If you have been really too busy,
And you feel your head being dizzy, It's recommended to have a rest, I have a good offer-play the Quest! : )
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad version
Awesome, amazing! In my opinion, the most scary, creepy, bada$$ looking creature in the game is the demon usually called "xxxx one".Something like "Corrupted one" , "Unholy one".I wish I could see IT'S new graphical model. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER I believe that you meet a lot of them at the end of TQ when you must fight their King. Whenever you beat him,it always said that "you are too scared of becoming the king of undead" , my character's race is Etherim. I always wondered whether Rasvim could become the king of undead.
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad version
Yeah, I know (I've gone through initial part of TQ about dozen times, because I've been dying repeatedly without having saves ![]() Anyway- I'm waiting for TQ2 impatiently! What about kickstarter? Are You planning to try it?
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionYes, we're still alive! Sorry for the long pause - we were working on the game's user interface and fps weapons/animations, also on some engine improvements like smoother movement, much bigger view distance, etc. Here are some screenshots which are close to the final look of the game. We still have much to do of course (on other UI screens, monsters, items and so on).
Next time we'll take a look inside some shops - until that please enjoy the feel of the open, large world around you. : ) http://www.redshift.hu/QuestPC/Shots/QPC-shot21.jpg http://www.redshift.hu/QuestPC/Shots/QPC-shot22.jpg http://www.redshift.hu/QuestPC/Shots/QPC-shot23.jpg http://www.redshift.hu/QuestPC/Shots/QPC-shot24.jpg PS: mixxer5: no, we don't plan to try Kickstarter. : )
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionThis is gorgeous!!.I love the artwork, Sylon!. ![]() Beckie
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionKeep up the awesome work. I love the blood shaman. Your artwork is beautiful.
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad version
![]() Anyway- pics are awesome. Will You change ground textures though? These look just like higher res then old ones.
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionCan't wait! How's it going? I suppose it's been a bigger overhaul than expected?
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionThanks!
mixxer5: no, the textures you can see on the shots are the final textures, only the color filters will change at some places. And yes, that was the goal: a higher resolution Quest. : ) We never wanted completely new graphics in this new version, but of course where I really didn't like some textures I made brand new ones. need for cheese: hopefully we'll finish the work around the end of this month. But you never know... It's game development where anything can happen, as usual. : )
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad version
Heh, I'm glad it's coming along well but let's not jinx it by talking about it more. ![]() I know most of your time is put on developement (as it should be!) but it wouldn't hurt thinking about the marketing side of things. Now, I was thinking about some stuff that you could do that would be cost-free and wouldn't take too much of your time. I hope you don't mind some suggestions? The website. It was okay when it launched, but now it's hopelessly outdated and with the updates become something of a mess. Please don't take this the wrong way but at this point it's just a liability instead of an assett. It's not making you look professional. Anyone looking at it now wouldn't even know about what you're doing right now. It's filled with stuff that isn't relevant anymore. It would be best to just dump it and replace with something new. Now I know you don't probably have the time to start making websites, but hear me out. A single white page with the barest essentials would be just fine. Just look at this website for Antharion: http://orphicsoftware.com/index.html Looks simple but also professional, ne? You could even do with something even simpler than that. Just a bunch of new screenies on a white backgroud, a simple feature list, and some choice quotes from reviews for the original game. A link to iTunes store to buy the iPhone games. Just dump the rest. I'm guessing the games for old phones aren't selling gangbusters, that stuff just makes the site look like a piece of history instead of something still relevant. Better yet, put Legacy and those versions of Quest for outdated hardware in the site as non-supported freebies. I don't think there are going to be many people who would put a lot of time playing (and much less pay for) something on a phone they no longer use, or on a PC version that's running on a tiny window, but anyone who is going to demo the game for even a little is going to notice that the design is solid and you guys know what you're doing. It's also going to add to the word of mouth in communities where gridder fans hang out. It might earn you a news story or two. If they manage to remind your audience of your upcoming product, they are already more valuable to you than what you could realistically expect them to make you as paid products. I think your biggest assett is the fact that you're doing a remake of a game that reviewed very well. Use those reviews! Some snappy "box quotes" on the front page would go a long way. Make sure you underline the nature of the game as a true oldschool RPG. The audience you're going after is typically real wary of mobile ports. Just some thoughts.
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionI agree with the need for advertising. I am always on the look out for good iPhone/iPad RPGs, and most websites recommend ones like final fantasy and rogue-likes as the best ones there are. Sadly, there's nothing on the AppStore that comes close to the quality of the quest in its genre, but the name just doesn't seem to be out there anywhere.
I also know that it is difficult for indie game developers to sink money into advertising. There is little to no immediate returns. But once the name is out, and people start talking about it on various forums, the wildfire doesn't stop.
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad version
I think buzz on various forums would be the best kind of advertising for a game like this. It's not for the mass market, it's for a specific kind of RPG fans. The good thing about them is that they like to be informed and follow forum discussions and sites like RPGWatch. So offering something newsworthy to sites like that would probably be effective and wouldn't cost anything. "Hey, we are offering this old game for free!" "Hey, we have a buch of new screenies!" "Look, we have a new contest!" You know, anything to get into the news feeds to keep the name out there. The problem really is that Redshift and The Quest have very little name recognition. From what I've seen in forums people are like "The Quest what?" and there's usually someone who comes in and starts telling how good it is and it's not like most mobile games. It's just that people rarely start talking about the game anywhere because there's nothing new to talk about.
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionI also think people who really love these kinds of games will find out about them somehow. I found The Quest by searching the Appstore. (Touch Arcade is also an invaluable website for me to find out about games) And it was a plus that you got to try it for free. That's how I decide on games. I tried The Quest's free version, I saw that it was exactly what I was looking for, I loved it, and I bought it. I'm glad Redshift is coming out with the PC/iPad version of The Quest. This will help them in creating their future games. :] (And I STILL play The Quest when I'm not playing another game, it's that good!)

Re: The Quest - PC/iPad version
Something I think we can all agree on! ![]() I wish more people would find The Quest. Too many are all like "I don't do mobile games" and don't even want to give it a chance. I really want The Quest II and it looks like there might never be one if this HD version doesn't sell. ![]()
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionThanks for all the support and for the nice words!
Yes, our website is dated, we know that but we simply don't have the time to do a better/newer one. If I have time for Redshift I make the games instead of something which I don't really know - when I made our old website back in 2001 it was OK and I was good in the website-making and programming area but now I can't even make a simple page. Getting back to these kind of things again would need too much time for me and now I have to hurry with TQ's new version. I'll talk about this with Elendil too and we'll see what we can do. Anyway, thanks for the ideas, Need for Cheese! : ) Yes, we plan to do some advertising before the release, that's for sure! We'll try to reach as much people as we can through as much sites and other channels as possible. When the time comes we'll ask you too to spread the word, of course. : )
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionIs this going to Steam Greenlight?
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad version
Absolutely! I have an iPad and am dying for this game. Haven't ever played it but have been waiting to. I played All the ultima, might and magic, elder scrolls games on pc growing up. PLayed all the Avernum games on iPad, grimrock on iPad and all of their ilk but am dying for this game to appear. And I am not alone. Already there is buzz on those forums. This wold be the definitive rpg experience on iPad. Blasted gate and Icewind Dale simply don't work on the smaller screens. How long after the PC release of this do you expect the iPad game ready?
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionYou do know the Quest with its original graphics is available now for iPad, right? And all its expansions? You don't have to wait to play it but you do if you want the new graphics. : )
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionAlso, despite how wonderful the new visuals look, I absolutely adore the original graphics of the games. They really are incredible, especially if you like pixels. But not everyone likes that style of art.
Still, this game isn't about the graphics. It is definitely much deeper than flashy showy 3d rendered images.
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionOkay, another month passed. With hard work, of course. : ) As we promised last time, now we're taking a look inside a few shops of the game. Also we have a new inventory with all new items, so we can show them too.
Now we're focusing on finishing the remaining parts/graphics, which will take a few more weeks. Then we gonna take a final run through the game for possible bugs, while preparing for the Steam Greenlight process, and also we gonna start the promotion here and there. Around the end of this month hopefully The Quest will be ready for the release. http://www.redshift.hu/QuestPC/Shots/QPC-shot25.jpg http://www.redshift.hu/QuestPC/Shots/QPC-shot26.jpg http://www.redshift.hu/QuestPC/Shots/QPC-shot27.jpg http://www.redshift.hu/QuestPC/Shots/QPC-shot28.jpg Need for Cheese: yes, the game will go to Stewm Greenlight too. Loox: we don't know yet, but it will not take more than 1-2 months.
Re: The Quest - PC/iPad versionWow, the items look really good! I love it!!!
