This forum is for getting help and discussing the main game.

The game will require OpenGL ES3 capable devices. Which also means the minimum OS version will be Android 4.4 KitKat.
Hmm in that case I will be able to check it on...two phones with probability of 96-128% success ratio. Other ones in theory have earlier OpenGL ES versions so they might not run it...but I will try anyway, for the sake of checking. For Science! It'll of course will be the new version.
I wouldn't mind the "old" version actually but I know, I'm the lone fox in that camp Yay for the expansions, what's a good RPG game without some expansions? Islands of Ice and Fire, here we come! There is no hurry in expansions, we will wait patiently :3 Oh also a joke to easen our minds a bit! <joke> The November is coming and still no Android version~ why~! </joke> Hm~ I wonder if I should make a "mage" or a "thief" for a change...hmm~

We are getting close to release. Anyone who are interested in testing, please write to us and include the description of your device(s) (as detailed as you can find). For various reasons, we really would like to release the game in october. Which means that you'll have very little time to do this. Sorry about that. Also, not all testers might get choosen (even if they manage to write to us in time ).

I'm so excited!!!! I played MANY, MANY hours years ago on my iPhone 3G, but switched to android 6 years ago and have been craving my Quest fix. Now it's out!
Unfortunately, I bought it, loaded it and tried to run it but I get a black (greyish?) screen upon launch for 10 seconds and then kicked back to where I was. I don't get a loading/title screen or any sound, just black/grey empty screen for 10 seconds and then right back where I started.
Errrrrrg!

Woah, am I this scary as Betatester? It's a great news you were able to release the game and even still in October like you mentioned :3 It reminds me of similar situation, if memory serves Torchlight 2 was being announced to be released in "summer 2012"... well they kept their word, the game was released 20.09.2010, it was still summer Anyway~! As soon as I choose what kind of character should I play on Android version I will get the game and "sink" into The Quest \o/ Have a nice and sunny day~

No crash dialog from Android? If there is one, please use the "report" button, it can help me determine the cause. There were some startup problems on Android 4.4 devices, I've released an update (1.8.11) a few minutes ago. Hopefully it'll work for you too.

Nope, no crash report or anything, click the icon to start the game and the screen turns dark grey for 10 seconds and then goes right back to my phone's home screen. I'll try again today because I SOOOOOOO want to (re)start playing (and I MUST stay further ahead of my daughters that will both start tomorrow, as soon as they finish their homework for the weekend). [BTW, I did reboot my phone to see if that'd help but nope]

Could you please send me the Android log? If it's not too much of a bother. Install this free app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... tb.alogcatStart it, then start The Quest, then save the log to file (the save option is the menu in the top right). The log file should be in a folder called "alogcat" on the external storage.

I'm not sure what I'm doing, so if I miss a step or do something incorrectly let me know. I generated a "alogcat" file but not sure how to send an attachment to you? I did sent it via email to redshift@redshift.hu but not sure if that was the proper way.

I did some scouting to determine standard problems but nothing makes sense... The black screen could tell that app is written for OLD Android without support for NEW Android but that's obviously not the case here. I thought maybe the OpenGL ES version but nope either, the network is agreed that Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 has OpenGL ES 3. Have you tried moving the game to external microSD card (If that Xiaomi has one, but I bet it does) ? If not, try it, just for proof of...something Also try reinstalling the game because who knows, maybe magically it will fix itself?

I've tried reinstalling (3 times), purchased it twice, running it from SD card, rebooted a couple of times, etc. So far no go When I launch it, for a split second, there's a black bar at the top of the screen with "The Quest" in white font, and below that the screen is just empty dark grey. After that quick flash the whole screen goes black/really dark grey for about 10 seconds and then I'm kicked back to wherever I was when I tried to launch it (I've tried launching from the app icon, play store, within another app, etc.) So far no luck. My daughters phone launches it fine. (LG L41c - Android v4.4.2) Now to stealthily "borrow" her phone....

That's unfortunate. The game first checks if it's data file is available and if not it tries to download it from the Google Play servers. During this time there is only a dark gray background, but there should be a dialog in the middle with the information about the download. And of course the game doesn't just exit during this... Do you remember how large is the game when downloading it from Google Play? Usually it should download everything on install, which means it's around 184MB. If for some reason, it doesn't download the data file, the APK is only around 18MB (so a very noticable difference in download time, unless you have very fast internet). You could also check if the data file is on your device. It should be here: "Android/obb/hu.redshift.thequest/main.4.hu.redshift.thequest.obb". It's size should be 173826524 bytes (around 166MB). If it's there and has the correct size, I'm out of ideas, sorry. Having the logs would help, but as I've written in the email, you'd probably need to have a rooted device to see all the logs with an app. If you are interested, there is a way to get the logs. But it's quite complicated, so I wouldn't suggest it, unless you have a good amount of free time, a Windows/Linux PC or Mac with some free space and you are not afraid to do some command line work.

Download was about 184MB. The main.4.hu.redshift.thequest.obb file is 165 MB (173,826,524.00 bytes).
I've got to head to a school function now, but later tonight (or tomorrow, whatever works for you) I'll take you up on your offer to troubleshoot my issue (but I'm no computer guru so will likely need step-by-step instructions).

Roll for Stealth Interesting... no problems here on Huawei P9 either. It looks like your phone is magically "allergic" for this game. Lemme check some info...hmm... MediaTek Helio X10 CPU Clock: 2,00 GHz Number of cores: 8 GPU: PowerVR G6200
The interface is MIUI 7 and as far as I know the CPU is ARM-based I think... so technically there shouldn't be problems with that one. I mean Huawei P9 has EMUI which is basically MIUI fork (more or less(?)) and the game works just fine (creating character as we speak). Oh also you were right master Admin, Samsung Galaxy S2+ wasn't able to run it, the game crashes just like that, guess the OpenGL is not enough~ That will probably happen on other phones, maybe that J5 thingie can do it tough. But hey the game works on P9 so enough that testing, time to have some fun :3 However(!) I will check back here from time to time to try and help with that Xiaomi case if I will be able to give some ideas, but I guess master Admin can think of something quicker with you know access to the application and stuff EDIT #1 Time to rest at the tavern :3 Full image here -> http://i.imgur.com/4ErJLAh.jpg

@MastiffMike:
Before we try to get the log. I've looked around a bit, at it seems there is an update to your phone. Can you check? Is your OS IMUI 7? Because there is an update to IMUI 8.
It's not clear if there is an Android version update included in that (it's all propieraty Xiaomi stuff), but it might still help.

Will it be compatible with Samsung Galaxy S3 mini or not? It says it's not compatible with my device in Google Play. Congrats on the release!!!

The Samsung Galaxy S3 mini doesn't support OpenGL ES3, so no, sorry.
We have been talking about it and it's increasingly unlikely we'll support older devices. It would include tremendous amounts of work for uncertain benefit (because even if I tried to make The Quest work on older devices, there is no guarantee a satisfactory result can be achieved).

What about *again* porting the old ios version + all expansions?

No, sorry, we won't do it. We are just three guys, we'll need to work on new games eventually. The Quest 2 especially. If we had infinite time, we'd do a lot more, but alas that's not the case.
