Hello. I have The Quest Gold. After doing some exploring around Matras, I headed south to Vastares. I ran into many things along the way, but most I could run away from. Outside the city (near the Pine District I believe), I encountered a dwarf. As I'm only level 2, I quickly realized I could not fight it. I ran away but it followed, past the city guards (whom I wish would fight it for me) and into the golden set of doors leading to the castle. I am now trapped in the castle with the dwarf waiting outside. I cannot kill him, and when I die and continue I just come back to the castle with him outside. Is there a way to fix this...?
On a side note, why are monsters so hard for me to kill, and why is gold so hard to come across? Am I playing wrong or missing something...?
Thanks, Archaides

Well, your level 2 and probably have very low quality gear. You also have never played before probably except maybe on lite version. I will answer your questions and give some tips. 1- You probably are stuck unless you can save and then hit the dwarf a couple times, retreating back inside and casting a heal spell or resting. 2- When you first start playing, don't just make a mad dash for Vastares. Do AT LEAST the following in and around Matras. -All of the Mayor's jobs- you should do this at the very start and the mayor lives to the west of the inn. You should be level 2 by now. -Across from the mayor, lives a lord. Do his quest. Then, while on it, do the quest for Otto the Shaman, who lives in a dungeon south of your current objective. You should be level 4ish. -Thirdly, go to the Cavity of Wolfcreek and help Marisola. Then, do the orc at the pagoda. Finally, return to the peninsula. Then do Thurn and Nadia's quests. Then, you will recieve half a treasure map and be told to go to Vastares. This is still a little early to leave but at least you'll be somewhat prepared. 3- The monsters like dwarves are what, level 7 or 8. They will be overpowered until you are better equipped to face them. Simple fact. 4- Gold is acquired by numerous methods, and if you do the above quests you should have a nice bit of chump change. Then, when you get the enchant spellbook from the Dungeon of Blood, you can buy leather capes from the Matras tailor and enchant them with 6% disease resitance (not originally my idea), selling them back for a cozy sum. If you are almost broke, save outside an inn and play cards. If you lose, reload the save and try again. This works better further in the game as you'll be able to gamble larger amounts, gaining 1k+ per game.
Good Luck

Yes thank you, I'll try saving and resting. I picked Seirey my first go and decided to just explore. Apparently Seireys are very wesk, so nearly everything took multiple heal potions/spells to kill. I've since started a Norn, figured out and finished a few quests around Matras, and I'm doing much better this time.
PS: Are Seireys worth choosing at all? I know I have high pickpocketing chances, etc... But most of the time I just get meat/cheese anyway.

Not unless you want a challenging experience. The skills Seirys have don't help much with combat. And lockpicking and disarming traps can be more than made up for with environmental magic.
