Weapon Damage

Is there a particular attribute or skill that strengthens your weapon so the damage amount doesn't decrease so quickly when using the item?

If you mean to increase your damage output, you'll want to skill either Light Weapon or Heavy Weapon (depending on the weapon you are using), or enchant some of your enchantable gear with the aformentioned skills. Do note, if you are to enchant, it is better to increase these skills than to increase your damage directly (i.e., there is an option to increase direct damage to all/specific monsters).

However, if you meant to increase the durability of your weapons/items, the only way is to get them repaired when they break/are nearly broken. You can do this either in a weapon shop (for a price) or repair them yourself (get a repair hammer). DIY repairing takes a long time though, so if you are planning to do it, make sure you have a high repairing skill.

A ring enchanted with repair is very handy. With it on and a repair of 150, the hammer I use never gets worn.

Not having some enchantable gear is really hard cause it doesn't do much damage to the mobs.
