A complete edition of The Quest?

Postby paradsecar » Mon May 13, 2013 1:52 pm

Once the last episode is complete will you be releasing a complete edition of The Quest? Something similar to The Quest Gold but contains all add-ons in one package? Thanks!

I don't think there will be Complete Edition because the main game has only two "episodes" and is already complete with the official mission pack (Islands of Ice and Fire). All other expansions were made by other developers, with a totally different story, world, etc. Also you can never know how many expansions will be coming from Zarista Games, from time to time they have a new idea and they are deciding to make another pack. : ) Also the way is open for all other developers too to make expansions.
But of course when someday Zarista will say they are really really finished with this game engine and there will be no other developers, probably we'll release a "The Quest - Platinum Edition" or something similar. : )

We (Zarista Games) are not really, really finished yet. : ) We have more ideas and I love the Quest. When we made the Celtic Doom expansion just now it was so nice to walk through the game and feel the snow falling on my player's nose. I don't think the Platinum edition will be coming quite so soon. : )

Maybe a complete edition with a way to disable the enabled expansions, so that they can be played separately, without having everything on at once.
With those new graphics I think many people will like the screenshots and buy the game, so Stewe could work more with Redshift in the future :)
It would be awesome to have whatever complete expansions there are that were never released for iPhone in a bundle as one free app - Terror's Returnal, FoTR, Islands of Monte (KGold, I sent you a PM), Orinteering Isle and maybe a few others. Those are all good expansions. What do you think?

We're (Zarista's) not done yet. : ) I can't say the Quest is as classic as the old Sherlock Holmes series (the English detective novels that my father used to read) but I know that when A. Conan Doyle tried to kill Holmes off, he couldn't because people wanted more Sherlock Holmes stories and it seems that that's the case with the Quest.

I wrote a longtime Zarista Quest tester and asked him if he'd be willing to test our new quest expansion Cursed Stone and he said it's been a long time since a new Quest story. He was very excited. So I'm not sure a complete edition would be complete. ;)

Yay!
I just had the idea of a free bundle that consists of Terror's Returnal, Elemental Asteroids (or not, if you don't agree), Islands of Monte, FoTR, Ghostly Tormentors and maybe a few other unreleased expansions, no matter what the size.
Since there is going to be one of your expansions, Cat, Redshift can readily release it, right? All others are initially free.
So whoever downloads it will get a very nice little level 1 expansion, an expansion that played right after it and a bunch of other interesting worlds that can also be played in succession with some tweaks.
Seems pretty sweet to me and it could make more The Quest fans who would be willing to buy other Redshift games.
TR is a very good expansion for new players, IMO. It shows very well what expansions are and whether you want them or not, and along with TQLite can improve the sales, but I can't know for sure. You decide :)
LA is a fine expansion, but sooo high-level that it just confuses the new players and even some pros who haven't played a high-level expansion like HoLIV yet.

It can really be hard for many people to buy a game even if they're rich.
Downloading a free app is just much, much easier than paying for them even if it's less than 10 cents

What do you think about it, Cat? Do you think it's a good or bad idea to make one of your best expansions free (like Celtic Queen where you can use all magic effecively or my favorite Elemental Asteroids because I want it to be free)?

I'll be excited to test Cursed Stone too, but don't make it too fast. Add a lot of interesting content ;)

Hi, DeMenchev, the pricing of all our expansions is jointly decided by Redshift and Zarista and we (Zarista) have contracts and agreements with other people who put a lot of work into the expansions and who share in the proceeds, so it's not really possible to make them free.

Zarista didn't create the other expansions you mention and there would be imho legal problems if Redshift just iphoneized them without a contractual agreement with the makers. You have to represent to Apple when you upload a binary of a game that you have legal rights to do so.

If Redshift did upload the game without a legal agreement with the creators, they would risk losing their license. So it's complicated. And maybe their original creators wouldn't want them to be released for free on iOS. Also they'd have to be retested on iOS because that platform is a different beast from The PC platform they were made for and then Elendil would have to fix the bugs.

I can't test them because in addition to making Cursed Stone I have a responsibility to finishing Nine Dragons in Unity which involves a great deal of work.

I expect to have the beta of Cursed Stone ready by the end of next week with a lot of interesting content but my betas evolve as new testers are added and the betatesting is carried out. As you know some dungeons are always added during betatesting.

I'm always delighted to have you as a tester. That's great.

Thanks for the reply!
I understand that there are more rules than I think.
Some of those expansions' developers might show up in the future, willing to have those expasions released on iOS... Hopefully :)

The idea is a splendid one. Redshift can benefit from income right now so I think we should keep the status quo for released games' price.

You did a lot of work on Elemental Asteroids so if I could make it free I would but we're partnered with people and that makes it a little bit hard.
