Question about 'Block'

Must a shield be equipped to take advantage of the 'Block' skill-line? i.e. Is the 'Block' skill useless for a hero using Heavy Weapons?

Yes you need a shield but you can still equip a shield with a heavy weapon.

Oh shoot! I was under the impression that Heavy Weapon = 2h Weapon.
