Could somebody please tell me how to get past/through magic barriers in The Quest before I go crazy.

There is no general way. In each case you need to do something for a magic barrier to come down. Usually just pull a lever nearby. But the lever might be hidden or you'd need to advance a particular quest to be able to lower the barrier.
