Help ! Can't Equip/Remove Gear

I am in the islands, just bought a new pair of pants. Enchanted them. Went to put them on...

I get the message that I can't equip or remove anything.

Am I cursed in some way? Pick up a magical something that prohibits this? Or a glitch?

I am not overloaded. I have room in inventory. Need help. I want to wear my new pants.

You are likely in combat. Just find and kill the monster(s) or get far away enough.

That must have been what was going on, but the odd part was that I was in the city when this happened, had been for some time. Anyway, it resolved itself and all is good. Thanks for the quick response.

Enemies can be in/near cities and can also follow you there. In most places the guards will stop them, but they will still menace you, until you get far away enough. In any case, glad the issue is resolved, enjoy the game!
