I'm playing on android. I'm not too far into the game but for the life of me I can't figure out how to use food, beer, wands, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Food & water are used automatically when you sleep in the wilderness. In fact, you can't sleep in the wilderness unless you have at least one portion of food and water.

Wands are used from the casting menu and you can drink beer as a potion.

Ok, but how does one sleep in the wilderness? Do I need a spell or item? I appreciate your help on this! I was very confused.
