In settings there is a block to turn on/off status icons. What are status icons?

Also, the messages that one gets for level upgrades are too “fragile”. Any input whatsoever turns them back off. In the middle of a fight, frequently the message is gone too fast to read.

I believe status icons are the tiles that show up when you’re poisoned, cursed, etc..
