Hello everyone, I’ve just got into The Quest and am having a blast! One teething question - is there any kind of penalty to death, or do you just respawn again without having lost anything?

Death is final. Your only option is to reload a previous save. So I recommend you save frequently and preferably in different slots. 
(Well, you could also start a new game, if you want to play "hardcore".
