The description of stealth says that it makes monsters notice you less, an yet I could be walking along in a forest with my stealth at level forty (don't mock I'm still only a level fourteen) and a creature can see and track me from such a distance that I cannot see, so I'm starting to wonder if it actually has an effect on how monsters view you. P.s: I am aware that there are other applications of stealth however I am only asking about this particular one.

If that is happening then I would guess that stealth doesn't apply for that. But maybe it depends on the monster and it's level?

Pretty much every monster, but it puzzles me because when I read stealth skill books they say that stealth aids me in avoiding monsters, or sneaking up on them (lessens the chance of detection) however the only thing it has helped me in so far has been pick pocketing

Well, based on the description of Stealth (the description in the game and in the game manual), it's the ability to steal without detection. So I think it's really just that and nothing more.

Well, that's disappointing, but thanks for clearing that up

Stealing without being a criminal is very useful in the game. : )
Also I'm not sure about the exact effect of this skill because the guy who programmed the skills left the group years ago - probably he built in something else too (like bypassing the monsters), or just planned to build it in, I'm not sure about that.

well, not really that useful when you have as much money as I do ( I got the lost archipelago and got tons of great equipment and good there while I was still at level ten or so, so money isn't a problem, and I just recalled back here later) however I guess it is nice if I want to keep my reputation squeaky clean

The Quest is not about the non-Redshift made expansions and their cheats. : ) We are talking about the main game now and about enjoying its gameplay. Basically the skills were made for the main game and they are very useful there, but of course we can't do anything if somebody travels to other expansions for getting millions of gold. If you like to cheat it's OK but it's not the skill's fault. : )

That was somewhat hurtful but I'll just ignore that, my question was still a valid one, when one reads stealth increasing manuals you'll see that one of the abilities it describes is avoiding detection by monsters, but there is no actual avoiding of detection, which was what I was asking about, and which you have answered, so I, again, thank you for answering my question

Don't worry, I didn't want to hurt you, as I said cheating is OK but then you can't say the stealth skill is useless because it's a very useful skill for the players who are simply playing with the game with no money tricks.
If you read somewhere that this skill is good for avoiding detection, just tell me where you read it and I'll modify it if it's an official manual/description. I just read the game's official manual and the skill description in the game's character generation and they both mention just the stealing function.
Also, as I said I'm not sure about the skill's exact function because during the game's development I clearly remember that we planned to make this "avoiding detection" function, but now I can't ask our previous programmer whether he built it in somehow or not. (I think he simply left it out because it was a too complex thing and we had no time for that.)

Well, it's pretty much in every single stealth increasing manual, you can read it by buying it from any librarian if you so wish to do so

So you mean the two stealth skillbooks? I just checked them and yes, they contain some misleading sentences. Usually the books have much more information and story than it's needed because they're mostly just for entertaining. But OK, we'll fix those two books in the next version.
