Hi I'm kinda new, just rolled a Derth priestly kinda character.
heavy weapon, heavy armour, heal magic, prot Magic, env Magic and alchemy.
Is this a reasonable start point ? Anything I've done poorly or any skill I might need ?
John.
Newbie.

Re: Newbie. You likely shouldn't professionalize in any armour, and just take another magic school, only because of the Derth's restrictions.
Re: Newbie.Nay, you're a newbie, so just pick anything and play the game already.
Btw, what do you people mean by Derth's restrictions? There are none, as far as I know, and you mention magic being useless more than the inability to raise skills from the status screen past 100. You're gonna reach 100 quite early on, in 3-5 expansions or so and it won't matter anymore which skills you picked and trained in the beginning : )
Re: Newbie.I was wondering myself what the restrictions are/where. I know the str dex end penalty is harsh. Anyhow I've realised I can't just stick to melee at the beginning, so mixed some fighting skills with lots of magic, and using both in combat. To be fair I'm doing ok, slowly raising me low str dex end, I'm getting the feeling of progression and think if I get to where I can fight well, I'll be fairly strong. Loving the game reminds me of might and magic. I've reached vastares and bought a decent heavy weapon, still not much good in combat, but I'll keep working on it. Having fun. John.
Re: Newbie. What I meant by the restrictions are the str, end, and dex penalties. So it is best to stray away from armor, and only professionalize in one weapon type.
Re: Newbie. But wouldn't he need at least some form of armor in the later expansions? He would have to armor up a lot through enchantments if he didn't, which wouldn't be a problem because Derth, but...

Re: Newbie.Meh, to each his own I suppose. If I had a mage, I would sacrifice the armour prof. for more magic schools.
Re: Newbie.Kinda wish I didn't take up light armor/weapons so I can focus more on other stuff. Are minor skills less powerful, or do they just take longer to level up? They do take like...2 skill points to go up by one. But are there other penalties?

Re: Newbie.That's the only penalty.
