Im stuck in the mages guild lair and everytime I leave I get killed in the forest trying to escape all the shamans and dwarves. Is there any way to teleport back to the town or am I screwed and have to restart the game? I have the spell recall, but that does nothing.

You have to also have the 'mark' spell to use 'recall'. You have to have marked a spot somewhere and then you can use 'recall' to go back to that spot. Did you 'mark' anywhere before you got to the lair?

If you have a potion of magic res., that may help against the mages, or a stone skin spell to combat the dwarves. If you have a town portal spell, that'll take you back to Vastares.
