Ideas for future updates

Postby Xx0plyllcrzy0xX » Wed Jan 25, 2012 12:44 pm

I thought this could be a useful topic for the devs. (didn't see one while looking at topics) Anyone feel free to post ideas!

1. For new players, a non-mandatory tutorial. By this, I mean a full rundown of how to take potions, cast spells, change weapons, use weapons, and so on. Not in a text for though, an interactive walkthrough. This would help beginners know how to play the game and be able to be more confident they know they are doing things correctly.

I will try to post more as I progress in the game.

What I feel this game NEEDS are map markers/*QUEST MARKERS*. It's such a great game and I'll play it for hours, but rarely do I accomplish anything. I find that quest descriptions are so vague that I rely on pure luck to randomly completely quests. I'd love to see a quest system that resembles the elder scrolls. Just point me in the right direction.

Ok guys a tutorial can be worked on just not in game would have to be a forum which a collectino of guides does the trick for really.

The game isn't getting updated apart from bug fixes and stuff in the new expansions no major changes to the game engine will be performed.

There is a spell called mark which marks a map position that using the recall spell you can go back to anytime.

In the expansions by zarista game you will notice more in depth quest information. Also all info is usually given in the dialogue so read it and take a screenshot (home and sleep button pressed together) to record it for you to read later.
You have 20 save slots use them all. Save after every quest, save before going into a dungeon, save, save save!!

I mean, what if we worked on a video that can be played in the help menu that does a full run-down of how to play? It's nothing to big and coding it into the game is no challenge at all. I could even help with the video, few hours with photoshop is all it would take.

How about also adding in smoother transition of screen unlike just box like movement, not to change the game but to smoother out gameplay.

Also what about adding a feature where you can get your own home! But they should be really expensive! That will be really sick it's like having oblivion on your phone excepts its 2d/3d

Also able to Make your own weapon, at your home that is and and outside. it would be like a diagram and you would just put in the items needed to make either a mace, dagger, staff anything.

Last how about getting friends or a party not from online in a game to help you or assist you on quest, and maybe just to walk around with you and help you out. That will also be sick

These are just my opinion, If I repeated ones that are already said then sorry, and hopefully the producers see this because it will help them decide what should comes next as apose to making another to their liking and not what the actual gamer wants to be added which wouldn't be good for either.

The style of the game, being turn based, wouldn't work right if the box like movement was removed. The house idea I rather like. Maybe 100k to purchase and it includes a spell to auto-travel to your home (when not in enemy range of course.) Making weapons however I think the devs would find rather harder to include due to its diversity in materials having to be spread across the game. And the weapons throughout the game are more of a "special" type. Not just enchanted metals. And with the co-op idea, it wouldn't really work as well as you would hope. It would most likely make the game laggy when people join, and it would advance people to quickly in the game due to power leveling of other players. Plus most games like this really don't want to go to a pvp type play style. But keep posting ideas, there's never such thing as a bad idea!

Like I said before no changes to the base game model will be implemented.

In escape and attack from asteroids you collect stuff then exchange it for weapons but thats as close as you will ever come in The Quest.

I think your best bet for these updates would be to convince Redshift to make a sequel to The Quest. Which I kind of doubt will happen.

Why no updates tho? It's not like it's difficult to code basic things such as the above mention.

The game was completed years ago. Your best bet would be to talk to Zarista Games about including things like this in expansions :). Including things like this would be a lot of work. It would be better for the company to just make The Quest two.

The ideas posted above, with a 3 man group, could be completed in a matter of a couple days. Making new expansions however is much longer in process

The original coder left years ago. With him the knowledge of the game engine which was never 100% finished and is still to some extent slightly unstable. meaning that adding anything to the game could destroy something else.

Also Zarista games can't do it either in their quest expansions. But they are making a new game i UNITY just starting so if you send some of these suggestions their way they may be able to incorporate them into that.

I won't go into how "easy" (or not) would it be to add stuff to the game. It can be much more complicated and time consuming then some of you seem to think. Until you actually try to create such things, you'll not have a proper idea about this (absolutely no offense ment, it's just how things are in reality ;)).

But this is of course of no consequence. As Jamie has said the game has been finished a long time ago. No changes will be made to it (apart from bugfixes).

We are just two guys, and I'm the one and only programmer. :) Currently I'm working hard on our next game (which will be a card game as mentioned in other topics). It's horribly behind schedule, but hopefully we'll finish it relatively soon.

After that we fully inted to create a completely new RPG, which will be even better than The Quest. :D

Glad to learn that you are working on a new game. I just discovered this one and so far really enjoy it. Some comments for the new game: I hope it I also turn based it is hard to find good turn-based rpg games. Also, I'm not interested in multiplayer games. Tons of those now. I love quest because it is a rich rpg gam that I can pick up at any time without needing an Internet connection (eg on long flights) or dealing with endless grinding to level up while dealing with other players. Also, I also like the strategy of turn based games over how fast I can swipe my fingers around on a small screen and worry about being distracted mid fight. Games like yours fill an under served niche.

The house idea would be good. Making weaponsighy be fun. Would have to see how it is executed. I don't want to spend hours grinding to get materials just o build a sword. That would just distract from the story an adventure.

Will we get an in game anniuncemt when your new game is ready? Or is there a mailing list?

As I said, we are currently working on the card game. The RPG is in the future, so it'll be a while before we can tell you about it.

And don't worry we'll take every opportunity to announce the game(s). ;)

(We can email everyone who subscribed to the forum, so no separate mailing list is necessary. Of course we don't want to spam, so we have not used it yet, but yes, we'll email if there is something important, like there is a new game to announce. :))

Can I ask for permission to go through the apps files and try to mod things? I can see if I can get the house idea working and other small updates to it. If any success I'll send it to you guys (wherever suggested) and I can access the files through my idevice, I just want permission first

Sorry, but we would prefer if people wouldn't modify the game itself.

Not that it would be of any help... You seriously would want to reverse engineer and modify the game code? You are either very determined or you don't know what you are talking about (no offense ment). And you couldn't distribute it of course.

And about this house thing (spoiler): you actually get your own house at the end of main quest. :)

Not anything huge (graphics, expansions, etc.) more the less just small things like quest detail and the house (which now I'm going to go do the main quest ;-). Distributing it is possible, not through apple of course, but file share websites.

They mean you are not ALLOWED to distribute it even if you did do it which they DON'T want you to do.
Sharing it the paid PC version would be more or less piracy.

It is more complex than you think the game engine was never finished there is dozens off dead ends and nonfunctional stuff all which never got completed.

If you really want to try and improve the game see about getting hold off the editor and see what is possible in that.

For purchasable and upgradable houses there is an example of that in an expansion mithril horde 1 I think where as you complete the quests you get additional rooms and such.
