Well an Etherim is the obvious choice as they are well balanced. But why do you want light and heavy armor? In any event, pick one of the two and make that a primary skill (heavy) and then when you have the money, pay trainers to raise your light. A good primary setup (and my personal favorite) is: Heavy Armor, Accuracy, Light Weapon, Block, Environmental Magic, and any other skill: if you want it can be heavy weapon or dual-wield even so you can switch from tank with a shield to 2 swords to quickly finish an enemy. Another good 6th choice would be persuade or heal magic. Any of these will work, and just max out your primary skills upon every city with coin, saving up your skill points for when the trainers can't take you higher.
Attribute distribution should be: at every level: 2 intelligence, 2 dexterity, and a point every third level to other abilities to keep them even. You may vary this depending on needing to develop certain skills so every 5th or 6th level put NO points into dexterity or intelligence and distribute them to your weaker attributes. It may take practice but your character should be able to handle any situation. Also, use permanent attribute potions to increase your lower attributes and you'll be golden. Hope this helped!

Oh I see, well then heavy is likely a better choice, and sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

Nope.
Light armor is the BEST choice!!! (heavy is just too good)
Try using ONLY light stuff throughout the world of Monares. Very fun! :D
And Seiry is a cool race to pick.
As for the other expansions... They're plainly unbalanced - if you go through everything enchanting the "best" stuff, you'll end up dealing 1000000+ damage (+impregnability of course) to monsters with about 10k hp max.
Lost Archipelagos is a fine expansion with an OK balance. While other "high-level" worlds provide much stronger gear even without forcing you to accept the main quest!

If this is not overpowered but heavy armor is, I don't know what the world is coming to. But honestly the only true advantage to LA over heavy is that it includes belts and cloaks, which everyone will of course wear. Also it seems to me that in general light armor has more enchant storage in the core game, but this may be wrong. Other than that heavy is dominant.

Wolf: yes, you're right. In the original two games (base game and official expansion) the light armor was made in a way that it will be mostly useable for magic users - not that much armor class but higher enchant storage. I don't know that the other expansions were changing this or not but this was the original idea.
