Can you safely sell Spellbooks?

I need to know because I have a lot of weight right now in spellbooks.

Of course you can. Just read the book first before selling and you keep the spell. Do this with spell books, skill books etc. if you find spell books in dungeons read them as it gives you a free spell and you can sell the book.
